Hi, I’m Katie

I’m a deep believer in magic. Those little moments — when the brilliance of a sunset brings a tear to my eye, when a quiet forest stills my spirit, or when a brisk winter wind fills my lungs with a chill that breathes life into the depths of my being. I’ve been impacted by the power of nature since I was a child. I have always held a deep desire to fill the world around me with beauty, to recreate the magic I feel every day.

You’ll see many a towering pine in my work, my spirit has been connected to them for as long as I can remember. I’m also a painter of reflections in lakes and rivers and of rolling hills and valleys. All of my work is inspired by the landscape of Northern Minnesota. I paint seasonally, so you’ll see the colors and landscapes of my work change throughout the year.

“My relationship to the art of watercolor is a perpetual learning experience. It’s taught me the balance between control and total surrender.”

Painting is so much more to me than putting pigment on paper. It’s the translation of a feeling, the magic of a memory, brought to life. My relationship to it a perpetual learning experience. Watercolor has taught me the balance between control and total surrender. Water has its own rules, so learning to work with it requires a certain level of respect and a knowing of when to add more pigment, more water, and when to step back and give the piece space to breathe — an intuitive balance of knowing when to act and when to let go.

I am a self-taught artist – except for one beginner watercolor class I took in community college in my early twenties. Otherwise, the first loves of my life were writing and sketching. Language is a great passion of mine, if you’d like to read a sample of my writing and get some insight into my process, you can check out my blog here.

In addition to being an artist, I am also a homeopathic practitioner. I am fascinated by the medicine offered to us by nature’s energy. It is both gentle and powerful and it’s changed the course of my own life and improved my health in ways I had never expected. So I love helping others and bearing witness to them finding their sovereignty by embarking on their own healing journeys. You can learn more about my homeopathic practice here.

I’m so grateful to know you’ve taken interest in my art. Stay a while, peruse my shop, visit the blog… I hope it brings beauty and wonder to you wherever you may be.
